Here I sit on Monday morning, sipping motel room coffee and listening to a bird which has been at his twittering for about an hour. It has been raining all night, though right now there is a break, and the forecast says " 100% chance of precipitation " all day - and its cold! Dang, not the kind of situation conducive to a bike excursion. We decided last night after learning that our route was over very rough terrain and anticipating this rain, that this would be a day of leisurely exploration of the sweet towns of central Connecticut. Sherry has been on Trip Advisor to find "places of interest" - though we have to eliminate the bars, taverns and saloons that seem to dominate her searches. I think we will try for historical sites and museums with an outlet mall as a last resort.
We really are enjoying this experience - very much like the Mario driver Sherry mentioned in her last blog. We think we have a plan, then have to adjust. We think we know the route, then have a detour. But we have become experts at loading our bikes and luggage in and out of the van efficiently. Yesterday we did it in less than 15 minutes! Thank goodness for those stabilizing boards from Kurt, bungee cords and Dollar Store towels! It is amazing to see what Gail and Wendy go through every day just to get out on the road by 7:30 a.m. And it really is a major accomplishment to follow the cue sheet to the destination. I would have ended up in Cleveland, Ohio, if I had to do it with only my skewed sense of direction. I have learned to listen to Dori. Let's see what today has in store!
